"A completely entrancing production" |

The South West’s amateur dramatic equivalent of the Oscars was held at a packed Winter Gardens, Weston super Mare, on the evening of 12th October. I am delighted to report that Bristol Opera’s Cosi fan tutte mounted at the QEH Theatre last autumn, won two major awards. The opera won the John Coe Award for Best Musical/Operatic Production, and Angela Brown won the Best Actress in Musical/Opera award, which, this year, was given in memory of the late Melanie Evans, a talented and popular leading light on Bristol’s music theatre scene |
Angela’s citation read: “This was a bravura performance from a very talented singing actress. All the nuances of emotion were captured in the powerful singing. The acting had spontaneity, and movement and gestures were graceful and well motivated.” The adjudicator’s comments on the production were equally complimentary: “This was a completely entrancing production of a highly complex and musically challenging masterpiece. The opera includes some of Mozart’s most equisite duets, trios and larger ensembles, as well as magnificent arias. The singing was quite simply ravishing – the production and presentation were innovative and visually stimulating.” Jeremy Watkins |
